I forgot to mention we watched that
old Disney circus movie Toby Tyler.
It was a big hit. Though it included
a real shocker: After the boy joins
the circus, he needs to escape from it
and running through the woods with
his chimp, he gets chased by a hunter
and his baying dog. The chimp runs up
a tree and the hunter shoots it!
It’s hard to forget the image of that
chimp freefalling from the tree like
a sack of wet laundry and laying there
in the dry leaves. Fortunately, it ends well
as the hunter later admits, “I only
winged him.”
